People with disabilities facing persistent employment barriers in Quebec in 2025

Many people continue to face barriers related to hiring, integration, and job retention, according to the results of a study conducted by the Quebec Commission on Human Rights and Youth Rights (CDPDJ).
“Some people even said they had given up looking for work because the barriers were so significant,” reported the President of the Human Rights Commission, Philippe-André Tessier. Noovo Info also recently spoke with a resident of Shawinigan who turned to social media to find a job and denounced the discrimination he faced because of his disability. “I would show up for the interview and as soon as I started talking for a bit longer, their faces changed and they looked at me with contempt,” said Adam Pérusse, who has lived with ataxia since birth. Ontario has been negligent and breached duties it owes to the class members under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, by virtue of these waitlists, some of which can last for years at a time as a result of the broken system.
